The Draisine, also called the Laufmaschine and aka the ‚running machine‘ because there were no pedals. The Laufmaschine was invented by the German Baron, Karl von Drais, in Mannheim in 1817. It was the first means of transport to make use of the two-wheeler principle. The Laufmaschine is regarded as the archetype of the bicycle. The above Draisine was built with cherry tree wood and softwood. It’s displayed at the Kurpfälzisches Museum in Heidelberg, Germany.
So nice that we have progressed from this first contribution of the modern bicycle…just think what it would be like to only have this option during your lifetime …yikes! rbp >*<
